Upgrade Notes

If you are upgrading from the 2.02 or 2.10 or 2.11 version of CoverFactory please follow this procedure:

Make sure CoverFactory is not running when you install a new version.

Install the new version of CoverFactory in a different folder from the previous version (this is automatically the default).

If you are upgrading from the 2.00 or 2.01 version of CoverFactory please follow this procedure:

Make sure CoverFactory is not running when you install a new version.

Install the new version of CoverFactory in a different folder from the previous version (this is automatically the default).

If you upgrade from 2.00 or 2.01, and want to load a project created with the old version, we recommend going to the Background tab and recreating the background (double click on "Image" under "Background Image" in the Properties listbox on the right of the screen). When you recreate the background, you can use the same settings as previously, it is the process of recreation that is important rather than the content of the background. Version 2.02/2.10/2.11 and later can produce much sharper images than previous versions: but it will only produce the sharpest possible image if the background is recreated in this way.

If you are upgrading from the 2.02 or 2.10 version of CoverFactory please follow this procedure:

Make sure CoverFactory is not running when you install a new version.

Install the new version of CoverFactory in a different folder from the previous version (this is automatically the default).

System Requirements

Operating System

CoverFactory requires a PC with:
  • Microsoft® Windows® operating system: 95, 98, NT 4, 2000, Me, XP or Vista.

  • Microsoft® Internet Explorer 4 or later installed.

Display Settings

CoverFactory functions best with your display set to 24-bit or 32-bit color, but can also work adequately with your display set to 16-bit color.

We do not recommend using CoverFactory with monochrome, 16 color or 256 color display settings. With these settings, colors may appear distorted while preparing images, some pictures may not display properly, and the generated images may be poorer quality.

CoverFactory will function with a resolution of 640X480 or above. We recommend, if possible, you select a resolution of 800X600 or better.

You can change your display settings by right clicking on the desktop and selecting Properties from the pop-up menu that appears. Alternatively, if you have unsuitable display settings, CoverFactory will detect this, and may offer you recommendations when the program is started.

Warning: Some display drivers (particularly under older versions of Microsoft® Windows®) may sometimes report display modes being available which are unsuitable for use on your monitor. Changing to one of these unsuitable display modes using CoverFactory or the Microsoft® Windows® Control Panel (for example: one with a higher frequency refresh rate than your monitor is capable of), may cause your computer to crash, or some in relatively rare cases, damage to your monitor. If you are unsure of what display modes your computer is capable of handling, we strongly recommend that you check with your hardware supplier before altering the display settings.

Memory

CoverFactory operates best on computers with plenty of free memory. We recommend using a computer with 128Mb of RAM or more. It may also help to close other applications while using CoverFactory.

If you get low memory errors while using CoverFactory, you can try increasing the size of the Microsoft® Windows® swap space in the Virtual Memory settings (under System in Control Panel).

Disk Space

We recommend that you ensure that you have plenty of free disk space on whichever drive letter you install the CoverFactory program, as well as on whichever drive is set to store your swap file.

Installing On A Network Drive

CoverFactory is licensed per PC. So in a network environment, you should purchase 1 license for each PC that you plan to use the software on.

If you have purchased multiple licenses for CoverFactory, please do not install the program on a network drive - as in this case, the program will not operate correctly. Instead you should install the program on each individual computer's hard-drive. To facilitate local installation, you may copy the installer program to a network drive and then each networked computer can run the installer from its network location.
